DESCRIPTION

The picture shows our 100Kg horizontal lathe configured in its
simplest form to weld both ends of a flexible coupling to two
pipes.
The use of a layshaft driving both headstocks ensures the angular
alignment of the two tube components.

The use of two fall away knife edges ensures that the flex is found
by the MIG torches, one is axially fixed, the other moves axially
(pneumatically) compressing the flex slightly before welding, thus
ensuring the wide tolerances on the flex length does not interfere
with the weld position. When no compression is permitted a laser
seam finder is used to locate the joint line prior to welding.

Both ends are welded simultaneously, manual on auto off clamps
aid location.
