DESCRIPTION

This is a 500 Kg capacity lathe comprising two headstocks with
one sliding and one fixed. The component shown is a wire spool
some 1000mm diameter and two rotary MIG welds are being
placed simultaneously. The need for internally good welds
regardless of ovality or length error is covered by the torches'
ability to follow the joint line. After welding is finished the
component is ejected on rails to the rear of the machine. The
product in question is a good example of the profitability of
automatic welding. The component was formerly welded on a
turntable, one joint at once and then trued up manually. Cycle
time was rougly one per hour. The automatic machine gave the
customer 5/6 per hour with no manual truing up. Other uses of
this lathe are oil/gas valves and flow meters etc.
